I am due to have my 2nd baby on May 30th (or sooner!) and I desperately miss smokin' the herb, but I don't want to start smoking again if it isn't safe to breastfeed if I smoke. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know! Thanks!

Tiffany, I was so excited when i was reading an article awhile ago written by a woman who did EXTENSIVE(!) work in Jamaica studying the effects of herb on mothers and their babbies when the mothers are smoking, eating etc herb every day. in the end what was found was that not only was it safe, it has the ability to help a bunch. For the mothers cannabis has been found to be the ultimate for morning sickness, and the absolute best for birthing pains! For the babbies there wasnt much of a difference at all, except for that around the first 30 days or so the babbies were less prone to get excited in angry manners. so prettie much they were found to throw less temper tantrums ! gonna try to find that article right now... but for real, has only been shown to help!

here it is Now if this isnt good enough just tell me and i will attempt to find her actual studies, instead of an interview with the woman who did the studies. very important, and good question.

so the only problem was that its not a nervous setting where the study took place, so if your not in a legal state and you get nervous and panicy easy might not be best for you. but if not, perfect.

I am almost positive that it is totally safe while breastfeeding. I will tell you as far as during pregnancy, the herb is awesome! I smoked with my first child and I carried her until the due date exactly. I had no problems with labor or delivery and she was absolutely perfect and 14 years later, she still is. She has never had any health problems except ear infections which had nothing to do with the herb. She is also very smart and has been in the gifted and talented program since 3rd grade amongst many other things.

So, I personally say . . . toke up and do not let it worry you at all!

(Sorry, had to take the opportunity to have a bragging mom moment while being informative! LOL)

Thanks so much! My main concern is that they will find THC in the baby's system and take away my baby, but I don't know if they even check for that sort of thing unless there is a problem with the baby. I did smoke a little in the first few months to help with the morning sickness because I read an article that said it really made it easier to keep food down, and it totally did! Sometimes the ONLY way I could eat without throwing up was to smoke a little before I tried to eat. I really appreciate you looking into this for me, thanks again!

Hey, feel free to brag all you want! Mom's are allowed to do that! And thanks! I did smoke a bit in my earlier months to help me keep food down because I had no appetite and threw up a lot of what I did manage to force down and it really helped a lot. I had read an article about a woman who had great success in all 3 of her pregnancies while smoking herb. The only reason I quit was because I have to pee every prenatal appointment and I get worried they will check for drugs and I'll have social services called on me or something. And that is really my biggest concern with doing it while nursing, I'm afraid they will detect THC in the baby's system and take him away from me, and maybe my other little boy, too. I don't know that they check for stuff like that unless the baby is having problems, but I don't know that they don't either. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

i smoked when i was pregnant for both my kids also..i was sick when i was pregnant i didnt really want to do nothing and i got sick all the timme..i smoked i felt much better i actualy got things done during the day both my children are very healthy and very smart they are 5 and 7 but they are doing great...after the kids were born they were very calm they rarely cried..lol i actually asked my mom why he didnt cry like the kids i knew..lol so yea i think its ok also

After reading all the responses I got, I broke down and let myself smoke a little yesterday for the first time in about 3 months, and I felt less stressed and just BETTER than I have in a long time! Thanks agaoni to everybody for their help!

good for you! i've been trying to think of ways for you (and the two other pregnant women at work) to get away with it. wonder if could have a few peeps help deliever it at your house since ganja is supposed to be best for pain relief when having baby , or if your allowed to somehow get away from drug tests,cause guessing its probly not good to try to clean your system out before you have it. herd they might look for that

I do not know about these articles up there but from what I know it is not really all that safe. I sadly took a parenting class (school screw up) and we went all over the effects of pot on a baby when breast feeding.

They teach you its "the" gateway drug yet you can read studies more then 75% of people used alcohol and tobacco before marijuana. I know some school that teach kids it is addictive. Theres a lot of different school and they don't all teach the same shit, but theres constant propaganda about marijuana that is completely untrue and sometimes its filtered through schools. You have to remember the people that teach you are also biased. I'm not saying everything you were taught was untrue because I don't know what you were taught. I'm just saying be aware that just because your teacher told you something doesn't mean its true.
